Biological Recording Consultancy

The Fungus Verification Consultation Project was commissioned by the British Mycological Society to review fungal record verification processes through surveys, workshops and stakeholder consultation.
The Record Cleaner Guidance project was commissioned by the UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology to engage the biological recording community with the redeveloped Record Cleaner checking tool through webinars and to create guidance resources in the form of educational videos and a user manual.
Natural History Training and Engagement
Biodiversity Villages, Towns and Neighbourhoods was a community engagement programme that combined biological recording, natural history training and public participation to inspire local wildlife recording and leave a lasting legacy of biological records and skilled volunteer recorders.
Curlew Conversations is an ongoing webinar series delivered with Curlew Action, showcasing the latest Curlew conservation research and practical case studies. The programme has attracted over 3,600 bookings across six free webinars and continues until October 2026.
entoLIVE connects people with the latest UK invertebrate research through live webinars, educational blogs and online resources. By the end of 2025, the programme had delivered 80 live webinars, attracting 42,686 bookings, with recordings and blogs generating almost 100,000 additional online views.
Make Your Wildlife Observations Count was delivered on behalf of the Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes Environmental Records Centre to help naturalists improve the accuracy, quality and value of their wildlife records.
marineLIVE connected people with marine research and conservation through a national webinar programme. The project attracted over 4,000 bookings across 11 live webinars, with recordings shared through YouTube and supporting blog articles to create a lasting educational resource.
Earthworm Consultancy, Surveys and Training

The Central Chilterns Farm Cluster Earthworm Survey compared the effects of different farming practices on soil biodiversity across five farms on behalf of the Chilterns Conservation Board. We assessed how management practices such as tillage, grazing, and input levels influence soil health and earthworm communities, providing evidence to support more sustainable farming.

The Earthworm Image Recognition Project, delivered in collaboration with the UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology, explored the potential of image recognition technology to support earthworm identification. The project combined specialist identification, biological recording, and image datasets to investigate new approaches for understanding soil biodiversity.

The Hay Time Project Earthworm Survey established a baseline for monitoring the effects of hay meadow restoration for the Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust. Over three years, we’ve completed 36 soil pit survey transects across 25 fields at 16 sites, recording 2,433 earthworms and providing robust evidence to support the long-term monitoring of soil biodiversity and habitat restoration outcomes.
The Leave the Leaves Earthworm Research Project investigated whether routine leaf litter clearance affects earthworm communities in urban parks. Commissioned by The Royal Parks, the study combined field surveys with statistical analysis to compare earthworm abundance and diversity in managed and unmanaged areas, providing an evidence base to inform future park management and urban biodiversity conservation.
The Sapperton Wilder Baseline Earthworm Survey established a robust baseline for monitoring soil health across a 380-acre landscape restoration project. Over three years, we recorded 4,868 earthworms, providing the evidence needed to measure the long-term impacts of regenerative farming, agroforestry, and habitat restoration.
London Training and Recording Programmes
The Barnet Natural History Training Programme is delivering a series of training workshops and online training to improve the identification, survey and conservation skills of members of the Barnet Green Spaces Network.
Ealing Beaver Project – Since the release of beavers at Paradise Fields in 2023, we have delivered annual Field Recorder Days to engage local people in documenting the site’s wildlife. The project is now repeating these surveys to monitor how the site’s wildlife changes over time following the reintroduction of beavers.
The Hammersmith & Fulham Biological Recording Programme encourages residents to explore and record local wildlife through training and biological recording activities, helping build local recording capacity.
The Hogsmill Valley Biological Recording Project delivered earthworm sampling days and Field Recorder Days across the green spaces along the Hogsmill River, generating valuable biological records and engaging local volunteer networks.
Lesnes 500 celebrated 500 years since the dissolution of Lesnes Abbey and 100 years since the publication of a landmark book on the site’s natural history, using biological recording events to update our knowledge of the site’s wildlife.

The Southwark Biological Recording Project helped residents discover and record local wildlife through natural history training and biological recording events, improving knowledge of the borough’s biodiversity and generating new records for greenspaces across the borough.
Wild Tolworth is a community rewilding project by Citizen Zoo where the Biological Recording Company delivers biological recording events to help monitor the impacts of the various rewilding interventions occurring on site, with a specific focus on invertebrates.
